Worth the visit just for the experience. Is it the best "red sauce italian" I've ever had, no. But it's the first time I've ever had a private dining room for 2 with my own temperature control, friendly service, and all I could munch. Food so you know what to expect: Antipasto - Just as it looks, pepperoncini, muenster, olives, garlic bread Salad - Iceberg with what tasted primarily of red wine vinegar, no discernible emulsion to be a vinaigrette but there may be some EVOO there. Meatballs - Good punch of oregano with good texture, these were a highlight Lasagna - Favorite of the bunch, meat, cheese, pasta (no ricotta /bechamel that I could tell) Fried Chicken - Well executed Sauce - This was a surprising lowlight, very thin, basic tomato. Now, my suspicion (and hope) is that we were early in the evening and as it simmers down through the night, likely develops.

For years, we had heard how wonderful Pete's Place was, so we finally made the hour-and-a-half drive to try it for lunch. Unfortunately, the experience left us scratching our heads. When we walked in, we were greeted by racks of shirts, cups, and beer for sale, but no staff in sight. We wandered through what felt like a maze of hallways looking for someone who could help us. At first, we thought the front area was just a gift shop and that the hostess stand must be farther back in the building. After failing to locate a single employee, we made our way back to the entrance where someone finally appeared and seated us. We were taken to a small private dining room that could definitely use some updating. To make matters worse, both our glasses and utensils were dirty, requiring us to request clean replacements. I ordered the May special: chicken parmesan, fettuccine Alfredo, and a salad. The salad was extremely bitter, the chicken parmesan was edible but unremarkable, and the Alfredo sauce tasted like it came straight from a jar. My husband ordered the Italian sausage, which included spaghetti, two ravioli, and a meatball. The sausage was about the size of a hot dog but tasted decent enough. Unfortunately, the spaghetti sauce was bland, and the ravioli reminded us of Chef Boyardee—great when you're three years old, not so much as an adult. I didn't try the meatball, but my husband was not impressed. We didn't even bother taking photos of our meals. In hindsight, we could have saved the gas money, opened a jar of Prego at home, and probably enjoyed lunch more.
