Worth the visit just for the experience. Is it the best "red sauce italian" I've ever had, no. But it's the first time I've ever had a private dining room for 2 with my own temperature control, friendly service, and all I could munch. Food so you know what to expect: Antipasto - Just as it looks, pepperoncini, muenster, olives, garlic bread Salad - Iceberg with what tasted primarily of red wine vinegar, no discernible emulsion to be a vinaigrette but there may be some EVOO there. Meatballs - Good punch of oregano with good texture, these were a highlight Lasagna - Favorite of the bunch, meat, cheese, pasta (no ricotta /bechamel that I could tell) Fried Chicken - Well executed Sauce - This was a surprising lowlight, very thin, basic tomato. Now, my suspicion (and hope) is that we were early in the evening and as it simmers down through the night, likely develops.

We're visiting Oklahoma from Dallas and heard about this Italian place that has been in business for 100 yrs. It is the cutest old home turned into an Italian restaurant. It was just my husband and I on a Monday night, we walked in and were sat immediately in a private room. Such a peaceful atmosphere, no kitchen noise, loud crowds or tv to talk over. Then the food came out and we were surprised by every bite. The sauce, seasonings, flavors were authentic and delicious! Portions are way more than you can finish. We had Ribeye and Lasagna and of course the bread, salad, spaghetti, meatballs, and ravioli that is served with every meal. I couldn't get over how delicious the spaghetti sauce was, my husband said the ribeye was the best he's ever had. We also enjoyed some local beers on tap and again we're pleasantly surprised. The only thing I was slightly disappointed about was there were only two meatballs and two ravioli pieces on the family plate. I suppose that is acceptable, but I just didn't realize there were only two ravioli and put both on my plate then my husband didn't get any. My bad, but they were so good I don't feel too sorry 😉

We stopped at Pete’s Place on our way back after the holidays, and while the portions were very generous, the overall experience didn’t really stand out for us. The food was okay but lacked flavor, and nothing we tried felt especially memorable. We were seated in one of the private dining rooms, which is definitely a unique and different setup. Unfortunately, our room had a noticeable old carpet smell, which took away from the experience. Overall, it wasn’t a bad meal, just not worth the hype we had heard. Probably not a place we’d go out of our way to visit again.

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I was not impressed with the food here. We were heading back to town after the holiday and decided to stop in for dinner on our way back. Having heard raving reviews, we were excited. First, you do get a lot of food. But, it’s just meh. The antipasti plate is a couple squares of cheese, some green olives and some pepperoncinis. The salad is just lettuce and dressing- no tomatoes, no cheese, not even an onion. Literally lettuce in a bowl with a very vinegary dressing. I got the Italian dinner, which meant just the buffet, with no additional entree, so the spaghetti was my meal. It was okay, but I really felt like a jar of Classico sauce would have been better than theirs. It just had no flavor. Hubs got the lasagna and said the same thing- we could have made better at home. Was really disappointed, most likely will not be back.

We've been going to Pete's Place for many, many years. However, our daughter was diagnosed with celiac disease three years ago, so we thought our days of Pete's Place were over. We couldn't find gluten-free items, or mention of the availability of, on the menu or online. We were in McAlester, so I decided to call & ask, as most places are getting onboard with gluten-free choices. Sure enough, they have options! I was told they have gf spaghetti, meatballs, red sauce, white sauce, & all their grilled items. We showed up for dinner about 10 minutes later on a Saturday night & were seated quickly. I do prefer having a larger party, as you get your own private dining room (it's one of the things I love about the ambiance of Pete's), but we were a party of 3 last night, so we were seated in a room with other tables. Not a big deal, just personal preference. They don't put croutons on their salad, so it's safe (basically, lettuce & a vinaigrette), as well as the anti-pasto plate (peppers, olives, & Muenster cheese). My daughter & I both had the gf spaghetti & meatballs. She said it tasted just like she remembered. She was so happy, and most importantly, she didn't have a reaction! She's very sensitive to cross-contamination, so that's always a worry when we go out to eat. The $3ish upcharge for gluten-free was extremely reasonable. We left with happy, full bellies, including my husband, who's not celiac. It's been so long, he was so happy to get the toasted ravioli, bread, & Miner's Light once again. Thank you, Pete's, for accommodating our family!
