Does McAlester Tourism have a mission or vision?

Mission Statement: It is the mission of McAlester Tourism to stimulate economic development and promote tourism, through forward and creative thinking. We strive to build a strong network that works together, to grow and revitalize leisure travel of residents and outside visitors. What is McAlester’s lodging tax used for?

McAlester has a lodging tax of 6%. Ordinance No. 2503 SECTION 3. Sec. 98-123. Purpose of revenues states:

It is hereby declared to be the purpose of this division to provide revenues for the following specific purposes, and no others, to-wit:

(1) All taxes collected pursuant to the provisions of this article shall be set aside and used exclusively for the purpose of encouraging, promoting, and fostering the convention and tourism development of the City of McAlester. Examples of authorized purposes include, but are not limited to:

  1. acquiring sites for and/or constructing, enlarging, and maintaining convention centers and/or visitor information centers;
  2. advertising and promotional programs to attract tourists and participants to sports and arts and humanity events; and

III. building, restoring, preserving and promoting parks or historic sites or museums that will attract tourists.

I’m interested in becoming a vendor for an upcoming event, in McAlester. Are there any permits required?

Yes, all vendors at events within the city limits are required to have a vendors/solicitors permit. There are three different types of permits that can be obtained by clicking the following link and associated price level: Annual permit: $150, Weekly permit: $55.00, and One day permit: $25.00. *Charges for additional peddlers or solicitors representing the main person will apply.

What permits are required for a mobile food truck?

Mobile food trucks are required to be licensed by the Pittsburg County Health Department, have all the necessary paperwork required in the application, as well as apply and receive a permit by the City of McAlester. Permits can be for Seasonal: $20.00 (per 180 days) or Annual: $35.00 (FY: July 1st through June 30th). Please click on the appropriate license type to access the online application process.

What permits are required to have alcohol at my event?

Any event that is serving alcohol is required to acquire a Special Event permit. If your event is downtown on Choctaw Avenue you will need to apply for a Beverage Garden Permit.
